When is a 1/3 contingent attorney fee not really a 1/3 fee? When its really a 41% fee.

We recently wrote about a prominent Richmond law firm that was charging a "file maintainence fee" on top of their 1/3 fee to settle your case.

Although we have not yet seen an actual fee contract (we've been promised a copy) we have had this information verified by another source.

This firm not only charges 41% to settle your case but if you go to trial their fee is 48%.

This is because they tack on an additional 8%' "handling fee" to the case.

Nothing wrong with this as long as it is "open and obvious" to the client but "normal?".

Nope. That isn't normal by any stretch of the imagination.
