Last week, an Alexandria jury sentenced Arlington County Sheriff’s Deputy Craig Patterson to six years upon a conviction of manslaughter due to his killing of Julian Dawkins. From reports, it appears that Patterson was off-duty when he encountered Dawkins. The two men had a confrontation, at which point Alexandria Prosecutors argued that Patterson shot Dawkins because he was angry about the encounter.
Patterson, himself, testified that he believed Dawkins was coming at him with a knife. It later turned out that the only object Dawkins had in his hands was a cell phone.
