It’s easier than you would think for your Fredericksburg, Virginia personal injury attorney to get away with not doing their job. How are you supposed to know whether or not they are doing all they should be?

If you don’t search for a great lawyer, then there’s a good chance you will get stuck with one of these bottom feeders who will suck every dollar they can out of you – and they’ll do it for fun!

Here’s a few things that your personal injury attorney may not be doing:

Speaking with your physician. You should expect nothing less than for your lawyer to be in contact with your physician. They’ll be looking to obtain a written report so they can fully understand your condition.

Review the health insurance policy. One thing your lawyer should be looking for is whether or not the money spent to pay your medical bills will need to be repaid. This could change the whole strategy of your case!

Analyze the validity of any liens on the case. There’s a chance that some or all of your recovery may be given to your doctors, insurance company, or employer. Your personal injury attorney better make sure it’s very clear what will be going on in your case.

Be in contact with the insurance company. Your lawyer must make it a high priority to put them on notice of claim.

Decide on an overall case strategy with you. Do you want to pursue a negotiation, or just file a suit? This decision should be made together, and never just by the attorney alone. If a suit is filed, your lawyer must prepare you, the witnesses, and health care providers for depositions.

Prepare written Q’s and A’s. This is a must, along with taking the deposition of the defendant and other witnesses.

Produce pertinent data. All of this should be prepared for the claim, such as medical bills, medical records, and tax returns.
