Social Security and Disability rights attorney Sheri R. Abrams, one of the best Virginia practitioners in the area of special needs law, passed away, from complications of COVID at the age of 53.
“Sheri Abrams was the "go to" attorney for the disability rights community. For several years, her office was right down the hall from mine and I would often hear her interact with her clients. She was not only a good friend, but a wonderfully smart attorney," said Ben Glass, with whom Sheri co-authored a book on winning Social Security Disability cases. "As her practice matured and she began focusing more on the complex needs of the special needs community and their families, Sheri referred her social security and long term disability clients, including health care professionals, lawyers and other entrepreneurs to BenGlassLaw, while she became our 'go-to' lawyer for special needs trusts", Mr. Glass said.
Abrams was well recognized by her peers, having been voted on and rated a “Super Lawyer,” one of the “Best Lawyers in America,” one of Virginia’s “Top Rated Lawyers” in the area of Social Security Disability Law and one of Virginia’s “Legal Elite” in the category of Legislative/Regulatory/Administrative.
Abrams was active in the Virginia State Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, the American Bar Association, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), and the National Organization of Social Security Claimant’s Representatives (NOSSCR), where she served on the Board of Directors from 2011 to 2013. In June 2013, she was elected to the Board of Directors of the Virginia Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (VAELA). Abrams had been an ASNP member since 2016.
