Accident Case Four – You Only Need a Few Months of Therapy
One of the most common types of minor injuries in an accident claim that can be settled without a lawyer is muscle damage. Whiplash, sprains, and strains are all common soft-tissue damages that may require physical therapy or chiropractic care to heal. You may also need therapy for damage to joints like your shoulder, knee, or wrist. As long as these treatments aren’t expected to go past four months or so, you most likely won’t need a Fairfax accident attorney to help you with a settlement.
Accident Case Five – You’ve Been Given the “All Clear” from Your Doctor
Even if you were in just a minor fender-bender, it’s generally a good idea to get checked out by a family doctor to make sure everything’s still in place. If your physician gives you the OK that you’re either uninjured or that you’ve healed from minor injuries, you don’t have a very big claim to pursue. Your medical bills are probably in the hundreds or low thousands, and your insurance should have no problem covering that.
Accident Case Six – You Lost Five Days or Less from Work or School
One of the types of compensation to which accident victims may be entitled is compensation for lost wages or personal time. A serious accident may keep a victim from being able to work or go to school for months or even permanently. But if you only miss a few days while you nurse a bruised leg or sore back, you’re not going to lose enough time or money to warrant a serious accident claim. Many employers even have special “sick days” for these types of situations.
The Bottom Line – You Don’t Need a Lawyer to Settle a Case on Your Own
If after reading this article you have found an example of your situation, you may be able to settle your accident case without my or any personal injury lawyer’s help. Even if your case kind-of-sort-of fits these descriptions, you may be able to handle things on your own. But if you read these six scenarios and said, “No Ben, my injuries have caused me a LOT more grief and expense than that!” then yes, you should talk to a lawyer.
Why hire a lawyer to settle your accident case when you don’t need one?
If you’ve only suffered minor damages, your accident case probably won’t be worth more than a few thousand dollars. Why should you have to give part of your settlement to a Fairfax accident attorney who probably didn’t do any more work than you could have done on your own?
