An accident case that settles without a Fairfax personal injury lawyer may settle for a different amount than an identical case for which you hire a lawyer. The obvious reason is that you won’t have to pay attorneys fees, but you’ll also most likely avoid additional costs like court fees or having to pay for expert witnesses to validate your case.

It’s not likely that your insurance company will try to “charge” you for these additional costs, mainly because they just don’t exist. What your insurance company may do is try to get you to agree to a much lower settlement than you are entitled because you’re not incurring these costs.

When you estimate the value of your accident case you may want to compare it to similar cases that have been settled to see to what those cases amounted. If possible, find out if a lawyer was involved in the case and then consider that that settlement could have been an average 20-25 percent higher if there were no legal fees involved.

The negotiation process of a Fairfax accident case settlement can be one of the most frustrating parts of your situation. Don’t get discouraged, you can settle your case on your own! But if you still think you need a lawyer, I have a few resources that are available without signing an attorney-client agreement.
