Lawyer directories can be a boon or a burden when looking for a lawyer. Make sure you know how to identify a good lawyer profile on one of the legitimate directories.
Evaluate Lawyer Directories
First step is to make sure you’re using a lawyer directory that doesn’t list lawyers based on how much they can afford to pay. I highly recommend using only lawyer directories like Best Lawyers in America or those listed as certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.
Once you’ve found your directory of choice, take a look at the lawyer’s listing. You should see a listing of trial history, case results, and client and peer reviews. Another site I recommend to clients who are finding a lawyer after a car accident, is AVVO, which allows ranked attorneys to contribute articles and legal answers to their extensive database.
If you’re trying to find a lawyer after an accident and getting overwhelmed with searching lawyer directories, don’t give up! There are far better methods to finding a lawyer for your case. Certain lawyer directories aren’t always where the best lawyers are found.

The top lawyers in your area aren’t lurking on the search results of paid lawyer directories; they’re listed on legitimate directories like Best Lawyers and AVVO. Paying for inclusion on lists is just one of the forms of deceptive lawyer advertising that I discuss in my book, The Truth About Lawyer Advertising.
