The 3 Steps to Writing a Good Fairfax Accident Case Demand Letter

A Fairfax personal injury lawyer may help you write a demand letter, but you may be able to do it on your own. We use the term “demand letter” to refer to the formal request for compensation for an accident case.

“Demand letter” may sound harsh, but it’s a fairly simple letter to write when you follow these steps to draft it properly.

  • Step 1 – Summarize the accident details. Your demand letter will come with all of your evidence, but you’ll want to make sure the key points are highlighted at the start of your letter. Make sure important items such as whether the other driver received a citation and if you had to be transported by ambulance for medical care are included.
  • Step 2 – Know what you’re demanding. Don’t just make up a number, take the time to calculate your losses and expenses from the accident. This gives you a minimum value to seek in your settlement.
  • Step 3 – Set a deadline. For small claims like yours, it’s easy to get overlooked by a busy insurance company. You still have to contend with the statute of limitations, so it’s in your best interest to put in a deadline of 30 days for the insurance company to respond to your letter.

Negotiating your Fairfax accident case settlement without a lawyer is possible as long as you keep your cool and follow through with everything.
