When searching for the best attorney for your case, it’s always a good idea to have options.  Where should you look?  This list gives an overview of places to gather names of potential attorneys, and it’s up to you to narrow them down to one.

First, do you personally know a lawyer?  He or she can give you recommendations of local lawyers in a variety of specialties.  Even if your case is in another state, you should still talk to the lawyer you know, because he or she can refer you to other lawyers or find someone who can.

Even if you don’t know a lawyer personally, you may know someone who has used a lawyer.  Call the lawyer’s office and tell them who referred you and your legal need.  Even if that lawyer does not practice in the specialty you’re looking for, they can refer you to a lawyer who does.

You should also check out the Internet.  Do an online search for [type of case] in [city, state].  A specified search will give you specified results of lawyers near you who advertise that they handle your type of case.

After you gather names of attorneys, get in touch with each one to find the best lawyer for your case.
