Recently, students of West Springfield High School were adjudicated as guilty of Unlawfully Producing Videos of Non-consensual Minors.  They were initially charged with child pornography charges for their actions.

Because the teens are under the age of 18, their findings of guilt are not “conviction,” but rather adjudications that could later be amended to misdemeanors.

It appears that the teens engaged in sexual activity with their victims and taped those acts without the victims’ knowledge.

What can be learned?

Clearly, their actions were wrong and criminal.  There are simply no excuses.

But also minors must be aware that they can be the target of criminal investigations from the use of pictures and video.   All youths MUST be aware that video, pictures, etc., are not private, and it must be assumed that that material be seen by the entire world.
